Green and golden tench, born 2025: The tench is a classic pond favourite, recognised by its olive-green sheen and calm temperament. A resilient bottom-dweller that thrives in natural ponds and lakes, it helps maintain a balanced ecosystem.

The EA classifies a garden pond as follows and must meet the following conditions.

  • Less than 0.4 Hectares (1 acre)
  • Not Fished by anyone including the owner
  • Be fully enclosed (i.e., no water inlet or outlet and not in a flood plain)
  • Entirely within a residential property

Pond Requirements

  • Preferred Water Conditions: Will acclimatise to a wide range of conditions. pH: 6.5-8.0
  • Temperature: Cold water-temperate between 0-35 deg C (32-95 deg F)

Feeding & Care

  • Generally tench feed on the bottom moving around in small shoals feeding on plants, small insects and invertebrates.
  • They will feed from the surface in garden ponds with other fish as they become more at home in there surroundings.
  • Tench are often a shy fish, usually living at the bottom of a lake or pond.
  • They prefer still waters, but can still be found in slow moving areas of rivers.

Fish will be shipped at the earliest possible moment. We will send you a text message beforehand to make sure you’re available to receive them. Shipments are sent on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
