Barbel are a powerful, streamlined river fish prized by anglers for their strength and hard-fighting runs. Recognisable by their barbel-like whiskers (barbules) around the mouth, bronze-brown colouring, and torpedo-shaped body, they favour fast, well-oxygenated stretches of river with gravel bottoms.

The EA classifies a garden pond as follows and must meet the following conditions.
Fish Name: Barbel
Latin Name: Barbus barbus
Barbel are most commonly found in large, fast-flowing UK rivers, but they can adapt well to still waters when fish density is kept moderate. Oxygen requirements are higher than for some pond species, although Barbel are generally more tolerant of lower oxygen levels than Perch.
Trout pellets make an ideal supplementary feed for Barbel, giving them the extra protein boost they need alongside natural pond forage.
Fish will be shipped at the earliest possible moment. We will send you a text message beforehand to make sure you’re available to receive them. Shipments are sent on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
